INFORUM was created in 1990 in New Delhi, India at a workshop sponsored by the Indian Council of Agricultural Research, the United Stated Department of Agriculture, and the Rodale Research Center. In 1991, with financial support from the Ford Foundation and the Rockefeller Brothers Fund, a working group of scientists from 9 countries set up INFORUM as an international non-profit non-governmental organization. INFORUM's Board of Directors from 6 countries was named in 1992.

MISSION

INFORUM supports regional and global partnerships among institutions that are developing more sustainable land use systems by:

  • developing electronic networks
  • developing information sharing processes that take advantage of appropriate electronic communications tools
  • developing the institutional arrangements that are needed in order to make these partnership more effective.
