It was decided to held the next Inter-Congress meeting jointly with the ISSS commission on Genesis, Classification and Cartography in 1997. The purpose will be to consider soils as recording systems for past environments, and should appeal to Commission members interested in the genetic history of non-buried soils and the paleoenvironmental interpretation of buried Quaternary and pre-Quaternary paleosols. The title for the meeting is "Recent and Paleo-Pedogenesis as tools for modelling past and future Global Change". The meeting will also include a field excursion to examine a range of buried and non-buried paleosols. See First Announcement of this meeting.
Many of our members will also support Inter-Congress meeting of the Loess Commission, such as that proposed in Washington State, USA (led by A. Busacca).
